Hiking & Trekking in Germany

Hiking and Trekking in Germany.

Crossing the Alps and climbing the Zugspitze

The alpine region of southern Germany boasts incredible peaks such as the Watzmann and the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain. The Allgäu Alps in the west, the Werdenfelser Land in the center and the region around the Königsee in the southeast offer ideal opportunities for hiking and climbing. Destinations such as Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberammergau are on the program, as are classic Alpine crossings. Our flagship trek is the Zugspitz-Gipfeltrekking, which allows you to discover the "Summit of Germany" in four days. Discover our region on trekking tours in Germany with Hauser Exkursionen!

Difficulty rating of proposed hikes and trekking tours.
The rating in 6 levels of difficulty serves as a guide and facilitates the pre-selection of possible travel destinations. The walking and driving times included in the program are crucial to the overall assessment of the trip. Extreme climates (e.g. hot/cold, humidity), long stays at altitude or being out in the wilderness without comfort also influence the level of difficulty.

All times given are walking times only, not including breaks, and gradients are cumulative for both ascent and descent.

Levels of difficulty :  I Easy Max. 3 hours' walk and/or max. 400 m ascent. -   II - Moderate
Max. 5 hours' walking and/or max. 800 m ascent.   III - Moderately difficult
Max. 7 hours' walking and/or max. 1,200 m ascent.   IV - Difficult   Max. 9 hours' walking and/or max. 1,500 m ascent.    V - Very demanding   More than 9 hours' walking and/or more than 1,500 m of ascent.      VI - Extremely demanding   Stages of more than 12 hours per day and/or more than 1,500 m of ascent and descent.

Hiking & Trekking with EMIT-Services

The trekking and hiking tours offered by EMIT-Services focus on "Slow Trekking" and "Slow Hiking", allowing you to follow the rhythm of nature in small groups. This concept favors exclusive itineraries, reducing our ecological footprint and offering immersion in unspoilt landscapes, far removed from mass tourism. The emphasis is on authentic experience rather than performance, encouraging a mental deceleration to discover culture and landscapes at a leisurely pace. Our groups, made up of 6 to 12 participants, allow for deeper interaction.

The hike starts in Hammersbach, through the wild Höllentalklamm gorge, to the Höllentalangerhütte (1,387 m) for a break. We then continue along the old mining road to the Knappenhäuser (1,527 m) and over the Hupfleitenjoch to the Kreuzeckhaus (1,651 m).

    • Ascent: 1,060 m
    • Negative altitude difference: 150 m
    • Walking time: about 5 hours

Day 2 : After breakfast, we descend first flat and then steeply over the Bernadeinsteig into the Reintal valley. We pass the Bockhütte hut (1,050 m), where we can take a break and admire the springs and rockfalls of this picturesque region. At the Reintalangerhütte hut (1,369 m), where we spend the night, we have time to explore the nearby Partnach karst spring. On hot days, this spot offers welcome refreshment.

    • Ascent: 370 m
    • Descent: 650 m

Day 3 :  We set off early to climb to the Knorr hut (2,050 m), where we can have something to eat. The path then becomes easier through the moraines to the Sonn-Alpin restaurant. The last part of the climb requires good balance on a narrow path secured by metal cables. Depending on conditions, this ascent can be shortened by taking the cable car. After a break at the summit and an optional visit to the "Fascination Zugspitze" museum, we take the Eibsee cable car down to Lake Eibsee, then take the cogwheel train to Kreuzeck. Satisfied with our summit experience, we begin our return journey.
