Day 1: Welcome to the Allgäu
In the late afternoon (4.00 pm), our hiking guide welcomes us to our hotel in the Kleinwalsertal, not far from Oberstdorf. This valley, already in Austria, is only accessible from Germany and leads from Oberstdorf into the Allgäu mountains. After getting acquainted, we take a short walk with views of the surrounding peaks. Afterwards, dinner together at the hotel. Approx. 6 km hike (A) 200 m uphill, 200 m downhill, 1.5 hours walking.
Day 2: On the Walser Trail to the Hochtannberg Pass
From Baad, at the end of the Kleinwalsertal valley, we walk on old Walser paths through the Bärgunt valley to the Hochalp pass (1,938 m). Skirting the southern slope of the Großer Widderstein (2,533 m), we reach the Widdersteinhütte, from where we can enjoy a magnificent view of the Lechquellengebirge and the Lechtal Alps on a clear day. From the hut, we descend to the Hochtannberg Pass (1,676 m) and continue to Warth. From there, a short bus ride to Steeg in the Lechtal valley. Approx. 12 km hike, (F, A) 875 m ascent, 575 m descent, 4.5 hours walking.
Day 3: Over the Hahntennjoch pass to Inntal
Transfer to the Hahntennjoch pass. We begin our hike on a path lined with flowers and cembro pines along a stream. Soon, a vast alpine valley opens up before us, and we look towards the Anhalterhütte, our intermediate stop. After regaining our strength with a break, we continue our ascent to Steinjöchle (2198 m), the highest point of our hike. Descent to the Hahntennjoch pass and transfer to our accommodation for today. Approx. 10 km hike (F, A) 950 m ascent, 400 m descent, 5 hours walking.
Day 4: High above Ötztal
Passing the Stuiben Falls in Umhausen, Tyrol's largest waterfall, we climb to Niederthai. The route then takes us to the idyllic Wiesle inn, set in a clearing in the middle of the high forest. We then descend into the valley and take the bus back to the Ötztal. Approx. 11 km hike, (F, A) 650 m ascent, 550 m descent, 4 hours walking.
Day 5: Heading for South Tyrol
Transfer to the Timmelsjoch Pass. At an altitude of 2,474 m, we cross the border between Austria and South Tyrol, from the Ötztal to the Passeier. Approx. 12 km hike (F, A) 700 m ascent, 1,100 m descent, 5 hours walking.
Day 6: On the Merano mountain trail
We hike part of South Tyrol's most famous and popular mountain trail to our destination, Merano. Approx. 13 km hike (F, A) 450 m ascent, 800 m descent, 5 hours walking.
Day 7: Farewell to South Tyrol
After breakfast, our transfer takes us back to Oberstdorf and it's time to say goodbye to the mountains. (F) Hotel and program changes are expressly reserved. (B=Breakfast, D=Dinner)
