Discovering ART, Culture and Parisian Life

Day 1:

Arrival in Paris. Welcome to Paris. Check-in at the hotel. First discovery of Paris on foot, an aperitif in a bistro, stroll along the boulevards and get to know the Parisians.

Dinner and 1st night in Paris

and the Place de la Concorde, with its 22-metre-high obelisk, is the starting point for the famous Champs-Élysées avenue. We also find the Arc de Triomphe here. What else is missing? Of course, the Eiffel Tower! A short photo stop at the Trocadero gives us the best view of the city's symbol. Over dinner in a restaurant, we prepare for the next few days. (A)

 Day 2 :

A stroll through the streets of Paris We knew it: the Paris metro is the fourth oldest in Europe, and has been in existence since the 1900 Universal Exhibition. The metro will take us quickly from place to place over the next few days. Our tour of the city begins on the Île de la Cité, near Notre-Dame de Paris. The primitive Gothic cathedral, heavily damaged by fire in April 2019, is the symbolic center of France. We have lunch in the Tuileries gardens, a former château park located between Place de la Concorde and the Louvre. We then visit the Palais Royal. Richelieu, Louis XIV and Philippe d'Orléans all lived here. Today, there's hardly a more beautiful place in Paris than the arcades of the Palais Royal, with its boutiques, galleries, bistros and restaurants. In the afternoon, we look forward to visiting a special museum (optional). We know that the former royal palace, the Louvre, is now the largest museum in the world. Let's go there and be impressed by its vast collections. We admire the sublime beauty of the "Venus de Milo" and discuss the mysterious smile of the "Mona Lisa". Was Leonardo da Vinci the model for this portrait, or did he perhaps even portray himself with a healthy dose of irony? (F)

 Day 3 :

The city's most beautiful districts and Paris from the water We're craving the ambiance of the Belle Époque - we're going up to Montmartre: we'll stroll around the Place du Tertre, admire the Sacré-Coeur and enjoy the breathtaking view over Paris' famous rooftops. Next, we stroll through one of Paris' most interesting districts: the Marais. Our guide tells us about the evolution of this district, which no longer bears any resemblance to Victor Hugo's 1831 description. We arrive at perhaps the most beautiful square in the city: Place des Vosges. In the afternoon, we devote our time to the east of Paris, with the new district around the Bibliothèque Nationale. In the afternoon, we meet under the equestrian statue of Henri IV for a boat trip on the Seine. Let the world's most famous cityscape flash before our eyes! (F)

 Day 4 :

Art and commerce Where travelers once arrived and departed, today we discover the art of the 19th century. At the Musée d'Orsay, a converted former railway station, we'll find not only superb collections of Impressionist paintings, but also a complete picture of bourgeois life during the Belle Époque. We stroll through the 19th-century passages and end our tour near the Opéra, close to Galeries Lafayette. Here's a tip: go inside and take the escalators up to the sixth floor, to the roof terrace. You'll have a magnificent view over the rooftops of Paris. For those who wish, there's the possibility of enjoying the magnificent evening panorama of the city between the Eiffel Tower and the Pont Neuf aboard a fully glazed boat. Every evening, a refined menu is prepared, accompanied by delicious wines. Let yourself be pampered by attentive service and live music (F).

Day 5 :

Back - To soon in Paris! Let's make the most of our last hours in the metropolis of life's pleasures. A final stroll along the nearby boulevards and through the passageways. Let's take a little "savoir vivre" home with us! We say good-bye and you leave for the airport or train station to begin your journey home. (F) Train, flight, hotel and program times are subject to change. (F=breakfast, D=dinner)
