6-day bike tour along the vineyards from Worms to Speyer

Day 1: Arrival in Worms

You travel individually to Worms. At 4 p.m., we meet our guide in the hotel lobby and stroll through the city center for a guided tour. The city of the Nibelungen is rich in culture, history and legend. The Nibelungen saga with Siegfried and Kriemhild, as well as Martin Luther, are an integral part of the city's identity. The Romanesque cathedral of St. Peter dominates Worms. This almost 1,000-year-old church is home to many treasures that escape the eye, but still bear witness to the deep-rooted faith of medieval man. Worms also boasts unique testimonies to Jewish culture. The Jewish cemetery is the oldest in Europe! The oldest tombstone dates back to 1076. After this fascinating guided tour, we'll have dinner together at the hotel.

Day 2: Through idyllic wine villages to Deidesheim

The first bike stage starts right at the hotel and gently follows the Pfrimm brook out of Worms. The mountainous panorama of the Palatinate Forest awaits us. We soon reach the green slopes of the Wine Route. It's not far from romantic Freinsheim. Numerous watchtowers crown the town's medieval ramparts. At every turn, we find vine-covered walls and colorful half-timbered houses. Freinsheim is one of the most beautiful villages on the Wine Route. From here, the cycle path leads to the most important wine-growing villages in the Pfalz. We pass through Bad Dürkheim and arrive in Wachenheim in the afternoon, where the ruins of the Wachtenburg dominate the town. The famous vineyards of renowned wineries line our route between Wachenheim and Deidesheim. Our bike route takes us from Wachenheim to Deidesheim. We'll be sure to deserve the delights of Palatinate cuisine for dinner! 49 km by bike

Day 3: To the German Democracy Monument in Hambach

Hambach Castle sits atop a hill. The bike ride up takes about half an hour. The view over the Rhine plain makes up for the effort of the climb. If you prefer, you can also take the bus up. This is the place where an important chapter in German history was written in May 1832. This is the birthplace of German democracy! Afterwards, we'll learn more about Pfalz wine from a renowned winemaker. Thriving wine farms, vineyard walls and tall chestnut trees adorn the route to our hotel in Edenkoben. 30 km by bike

Day 4: Royal view of the French border

A beautiful path leads from the hotel to Villa Ludwigshöhe. We start the day with a touch of Italy in Pfalz: the king's villa is entirely in classical style. The king only stayed at Ludwigshöhe eight times, and had his furniture transported by train from Munich. The view over vineyard hills and picturesque villages explains why the king took the trouble. Next, we'll take the Riedbergbahn up to enjoy more panoramic views. On the Riedberg, we'll start the day's cycling stage. Later, we'll meet a vinegar producer who transforms wine into exceptional vinegars before heading to the charming spa town of Bad Bergzabern in the afternoon. Afterwards, we continue our ride through the Erlenbach valley. 49 km cycling, 3 km hiking

Day 5: Through meadows and forests to Speyer's imperial cathedral

Today's objective is the city of Speyer with its famous Romanesque cathedral! The cycle path starts right at the hotel and descends gently into the Rhine plain. Initially through vineyards, the cycle path then passes through landscapes of au and forests. In a small brick museum, we learn how the delicious agricultural produce of the Pfalz was transported to distant destinations! From afar, the four towers of the huge church indicate our destination, and we soon reach the pretty town of Speyer. The cycle path takes us straight to the imposing cathedral! The mighty sandstone walls rise into the sky. When Conrad II began building Speyer Dombau in 1024 after his election as German king, he had an ambitious goal: in the midst of his family estates - the Salics were dukes of the Frankish Rhineland and counts of Speyergau - he wanted to create the largest cathedral in all of Western Christianity. More than 50 Reichstags also took place in the cathedral's shadow. The cathedral has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, and is now the largest surviving Romanesque church in the world. On the last night of the trip, we'll be sleeping just a few steps from the cathedral, in a historic hotel. 68 km by bike

Day 6: Farewell to Speyer

After breakfast, we'll cycle through the pretty city. Speyer has a lot to offer: old half-timbered houses, beautiful squares, an elegant town hall and, of course, the imposing cathedral! After the guided tour, we'll take the last leg by bike through the Pfalz to Worms, where we'll arrive at the departure hotel around 5 p.m.. From there, you'll depart individually. 48 km by bike.
