Those who dream of climbing Kilimanjaro don’t necessarily have to spend their nights in tents. On this route, we’ll stay in simple shared mountain huts nestled along the famous Marangu Route. Both the ascent and the descent follow the same path, lined with diverse landscapes and crossing all vegetation zones.
Attendance, strictly regulated by the National Park Authority, ensures an experience far from the crowds.

Our adventure will begin with a hike through a dense, lush rainforest, a green haven inhabited by several species of monkeys. Gradually, the vegetation thins, giving way to moorlands, home of the famous endemic giant senecio of Kilimanjaro. The Horombo Hut will then be within reach: we will spend two nights there at 3,700 m altitude, with an acclimatization excursion to the fascinating Zebra Rocks, heading towards the Mawenzi massif.

“Walk high, sleep low” will be our motto… and of course “Pole Pole” – slowly but surely, as they say in Swahili. Drinking regularly and keeping a steady pace will be our allies in reaching the summit.

Often considered the most accessible route, the Marangu Route is still a true high-altitude trek. The differences between the routes are marginal: the final altitude, nearly 6,000 m, demands caution and respect. But it is the ideal route for those who prefer the rustic comfort of huts, a well-marked path, and the diversity of landscapes… without giving up the challenge.
