Germany: Sustainable hiking & trekking

Crossing the Alps and climbing the Zugspitze

Discover the Southern German Alps – between nature, culture, and self-discovery

The alpine region of southern Germany is home to majestic landscapes, dominated by legendary peaks such as the Watzmann and the Zugspitze, the country’s highest mountain. From the Allgäu Alps in the west to the Werdenfelser Land in the center, and the surroundings of Lake Königssee in the east, the area offers an exceptional setting for hiking, mountain trekking, and exploring diverse natural environments.

Iconic stops such as Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberammergau enrich these varied routes. Among the highlights is the Zugspitze summit trek, a four-day journey through the alpine scenery leading to the “roof of Germany.”

Through our hiking and trekking journeys, we invite you to discover Germany in a different way: in harmony with nature, with a spirit of sharing, respect, and reconnection with the land.

Difficulty rating of proposed hikes and trekking tours.
The rating in 6 levels of difficulty serves as a guide and facilitates the pre-selection of possible travel destinations. The walking and driving times included in the program are crucial to the overall assessment of the trip. Extreme climates (e.g. hot/cold, humidity), long stays at altitude or being out in the wilderness without comfort also influence the level of difficulty.

All times given are walking times only, not including breaks, and gradients are cumulative for both ascent and descent.

Levels of difficulty :  I Easy Max. 3 hours' walk and/or max. 400 m ascent. -   II - Moderate
Max. 5 hours' walking and/or max. 800 m ascent.   III - Moderately difficult
Max. 7 hours' walking and/or max. 1,200 m ascent.   IV - Difficult   Max. 9 hours' walking and/or max. 1,500 m ascent.    V - Very demanding   More than 9 hours' walking and/or more than 1,500 m of ascent.      VI - Extremely demanding   Stages of more than 12 hours per day and/or more than 1,500 m of ascent and descent.
